Colman Street in New London Closed After Crash

Colman Street in New London remains closed after a car struck a utility pole early Sunday morning.

New London police said they responded to a crash in the area of 239 Jefferson Avenue around 3 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived they found a car had struck a police, causing serious damage. There were wires down and across the roadway in three places on nearby Colman Street.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured and police do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.

Eversource was called to repair the damage. Colman Street between Jefferson Avenue and Garfield Avenue has been closed for hours and police anticipate it will reopen late Sunday afternoon.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
