Connecticut District Settles North Canaan Playground Access Complaint

Federal prosecutors say they have reached a settlement with a Connecticut school district over a complaint that an elementary school playground did not offer equal access for children with disabilities.

The office of the U.S. attorney for Connecticut says the district is making significant changes to the playground at North Canaan Elementary School playground as required by the agreement.

The settlement announced Friday resolves a complaint filed under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

U.S. Attorney Deirdre Daly says the school district worked quickly to address the issue without litigation.

The school principal referred a request for comment to the superintendent. The superintendent's office did not immediately respond to a phone message.
