A 72-year-old New Haven woman was attacked from behind as she put out the garbage at her Livingston Street home early Tuesday morning.
Police believe the woman was attacked when she interrupted someone who was checking out a vacant house.
They believe the woman passed out when the man choked her and said she had bruising around her neck and on her face.
The woman was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for evaluation.
On Tuesday, police who regularly patrol the area met with block watch captains about the attack.
