Essex Deaths Were Murder-Suicide: Police

State people have identified the two people who were found dead inside an Essex home on Tuesday afternoon and said the case is a murder-suicide.

Connecticut State Police responded to the home on Prospect Street around 1:30 p.m. to conduct a well-being check and troopers found 72-year-old Susan Barron and 72-year-old Joseph Reifer dead inside the home.

The officer of the medical examiner determined that Barron was shot and killed and Reifer died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

This incident remains under investigation.

Barron and Reifer both lived in the home. 

Reifer would have turned 73 on Thursday, according to the news release from state police.
