Gov. Rell, Dems to Hammer Out Budget

NEWINGTON, Conn. (AP) -- Gov. M. Jodi Rell and legislative leaders have agreed to meet Sunday and attempt to hammer out a budget deal, possibly before the fiscal year ends Tuesday.

Rell, a Republican, says there's still a chance to reach a compromise in time.

Rell's remarks came at a media appearance at the home of a Newington family to sign her veto of the Democrats' two-year budget, which was approved Friday. Her veto will not be official until she receives the bill, possibly on Monday.

She is calling the Democrats' plan unbalanced, unaffordable and unfinished.

The majority Democrats, meanwhile, appeared at the Life Star emergency medical landing pad at Hartford Hospital to stress their continued support for key programs. Rell's original budget had cut some funding for the helicopters.
