Groton Hostage Report Turns Out to Be ‘Swatting' Incident

The report of a family being held against their will in Groton on Wednesday afternoon turned out to be a falsely reported "swatting" incident, according to police.

Groton Town Police said they responded to a home off Hazelnut Hill Road around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday after receiving the report of a family being held hostage.

Investigators surrounded the home and used the reverse 911 system to alert neighbors.

It was only after police arrived that they learned there was no issue at the house. Police said family members came outside and had no knowledge of any incident there.

Police checked the property and cleared the scene.

It's not clear who made the false report.

Authorities are investigating.
