Former Governor John Rowland is reportedly connected to a federal investigation once again.
According to political blogger Kevin Rennie, a federal grand jury is investigating Rowland's role as an "unpaid volunteer" for Republican candidate for Congress, Lisa Wilson-Foley, and his paid position as a consultant for a business owned by Wilson-Foley's family.
Rowland, who works as a radio host on WTIC-AM 1080, was being paid $5,000 a month to provide consulting services to Apple Rehab, a group of nursing facilities run by Wilson-Foley's husband, Brian, Rennie reported in his Daily Ructions blog. The contract was through a Branford lawyer who does work for Apple Rehab, Rennie said.
Rowland, Lisa-Wilson Foley and Brian Foley have previously denied any connection between the consulting contract and Rowland's work for the campaign. Wilson-Foley is running for Congress in Connecticut's Fifth District.
The campaign for Mark Greenberg, a Republican running against Wilson-Foley, released a statement on Monday that confirmed Greenberg had provided information to the grand jury.
"The Greenberg campaign confirmed that Mark was contacted as a 'factual witness' and that he provided the requested information," Chris Cooper said in the statement. "The campaign also confirmed that Mark Greenberg is not in any way a target of the investigation.
Rowland served as governor of Connecticut from 1995 through 2004. He resigned and pleaded guilty to corruption charges involving work done on his Bantam cottage. He spent nearly a year in federal prison.
