Lawmakers to Decide on Racial Profiling, Cop Taping Bills

Votes will take place on Thursday.

Lawmakers will vote today on a bill that focuses on new protections against racial profiling and another that would allow residents to record police officers.

The racial profiling protection legislation, which follows a two-year investigation into the East Haven Police Department, requires police officers to record information related to traffic stops on specialized forms.

While investigating the East Haven Police, the U.S. Department of Justice found that officers were discriminating against the town's Latino population, targeting them in traffic stops and handing them harsher punishments.

The other bill would allow residents to bring a cause of action against a police officer who interferes with a person taking a picture or videotaping officers.
