Need a passport? You can catch a break on the price Saturday. The U.S. State Department is holding "Passport Day Across the U.S.A.," including at dozens of locations across Connecticut.
That means you can go to dozens of passport application locations from Ansonia to Winsted, like certain post offices, and libraries on Saturday and get a discount on the fees paid for passports.
The promotion comes just two months before the June 1 full implementation of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. Those new rules will require most U.S. citizens coming into the United States from any foreign country to have a passport or passport card.
The full passport is required for most international travel, but people can also get wallet-sized passport cards. First issued in 2008, the passport cards are good for land or sea crossings between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda.
People can save up to $60 by applying for their passport on Saturday.
