Save the Sound This Weekend

Statewide Beach and Waterway Cleanup Saturday and Sunday

From Greenwich to Groton, volunteers are picking up trash to preserve Connecticut's coastline this weekend.

Save the Sound, a program of the Connecticut Fund for the Environment, is coordinating a massive cleanup that stretches the state's shoreline Saturday and Sunday.

Hundreds of volunteers are expected to come out and remove and catalog thousands of pounds of trash from the state's beaches and waterways.

The UConn Dive Club will make a repeat appearance this weekend taking part in several boat and kayak cleanups.

Last year in Connecticut, 1,700 volunteers picked up more than 15,000 pounds of trash at 35 locations along the state's shoreline.
