Unlocked Doors and Windows Let Burglar In

Police log 15 break-ins in Winsted in two weeks.

Two more break-ins early Thursday morning bring the number of unsolved burglaries to 15 for police in Winsted in the last two weeks.

"They're happening at night, late at night, after midnight, and the early morning hours," said Chief Robert Scannell. "To protect yourself, you really need to lock your doors and windows, in your home and your car, to protect your belongings and keep valuable items, your wallet or computer, out of sight from a window.

One burglar might be responsible for all the crimes.

The intruder comes and goes on foot, Chief Scannell said, and gains access through unlocked doors and windows to cash and valuables inside homes.

Chief Scannell recommended people install lights that respond to motion, "or at least leave a light on at night outside," he said.

He also urged people in Winsted to report any suspicious activity to police.
