Vietnam Vet Finally Gets His Medals

U.S. Marine Cpl. Jerry P. Winn’s efforts and courage are not going unnoticed.

It’s been more than 42 years since he suffered serious injuries in war, but , U.S. Marine Cpl. Jerry P. Winn’s efforts and courage are not going unnoticed.

Today, the Winsted Marine received 10 medals and ribbons, including the Purple Heart, for his service during the Vietnam War.

In 1970, when Winn was 19, he pushed a fellow soldier out of the way after stepping on a landmine. His injuries were considered serious and life-threatening.

He credits Eileen Hurst, director of the Veterans History Project at Central Connecticut State University, for working with him to get his medals.
