Water Main Break in Rocky Hill

Route 3 was shut down at New Britain Avenue Friday afternoon.

A water main break shut down Route 3 in Rocky Hill Friday afternoon.

Water began bubbling up from the roadway at the intersection of Route 3 and New Britain Avenue around 3:30 p.m., according to a spokesperson for the Metropolitan District Commission.

The break occurred in front of the Rocky Hill Volunteer Fire Station 2. Firefighters removed fire trucks from the station over concerns the Fire Department's parking lot may be compromised by the water main break.

Several businesses in the area, including restaurants, were without water.

Repairs to the water main took 4 to 6 hours. The road is now open., according to the MDC.
