Birch Grove Primary school in Tolland was closed Monday as a safety precaution because of strong winds and the possible threat they posed to the cantilever, but the school is open Tuesday.
Superintendent Walter Willett said in a statement to the school community Monday that he was informed that the “cantilever structure in front of the school, while stable under normal conditions, may require extra caution under extreme high wind conditions.”
He said that it was unlikely to be a problem, but erred on the side of safety. "The safety of students, families, and staff is of primary importance,” Willett wrote.
The superintendent in Tolland said the school will operate on a normal schedule Tuesday.
