Hacking Group Helps Group Aiding Abuse Victims

This is connected to the sexual assault allegations against Torrington football players.

The hacking group Anonymous is trying to raise money to help the Susan B. Anthony Project following sexual assault charges at Torrington High School.

A Twitter account affiliated with Anonymous includes several posts on Sunday that ask Anonymous members and followers to help raise money for Susan B. Anthony Project and provided a link to its online donation page and asking followers to donate money.

The Susan B. Anthony Project is based in Torrington, where two Torrington High School football players have been charged in sexual assault cases that, like a recent high-profile Ohio rape case, led to online taunts directed at an accuser.

Officials from the Susan B. Anthony Project said they had an increase in donations and messages between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The donation amount was not high, but the organization appreciates the effort to get the word out.

A member of Anonymous posted an online message on Saturday saying that Anonymous was drawn to the Connecticut case because of the online bullying. The Register Citizen reports

The Tweet says Susan B. Anthony Project promotes safety, healing and growth for survivors of abuse.
