On Halloween, the dreams of an ocelot came true for a wildcat mom-to-be at Beardsley Zoo when she gave birth after artificial insemination.
The little furry ball of cuteness was just introduced to the public on Valentine’s Day and has been referred to as miracle kitten. Now, it needs a name.
There are three choices, all in Portuguese, in keeping with the little guy’s Brazilian ancestry, Gregg Dancho, the zoo director, said.
- Mopua': three
- Milagre: miracle
- Bruxo: Halloween
This is the first time that the AI procedure has been used specifically to manage this endangered species, according to the zoo. This also is the first ocelot kitten to be born at Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo.
Want to vote on a name? Ballots will be available at the front gate through April 18.
The kitten's new name will be announced on Day Two of "Party for the Planet," April 19.
