Shelter in Place Lifted After Suspicious Package Prompts Investigation in Old Saybrook

A shelter in place has been lifted after a suspicious package prompted an investigation in Old Saybrook on Monday afternoon.

The investigation prompted a shelter in place order for residents of Drummers Trail and Overlook Drive, but it has since been lifted.

Old Saybrook Police said they were being assisted by the Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad. 

Officers said the explosion noise that was heard by neighbors in the area was intentional and was necessary to make everything safe. The area is now safe.

The Old Saybrook Police are working closely with the FBI and U.S. Postal Inspectors to investigate the incident.
