Police Identify Man Killed in Shooting in New Haven

A 33-year-old New Haven man was killed in a shooting on Tuesday afternoon in New Haven, near the Hamden line.

Police responded to 911 calls just before 1:30 p.m. after people reported someone had been shot on Dixwell Avenue, between Cherry Ann Street and Elizabeth Street, in New Haven. 

Officers found 33-year-old Kevin Mills suffering from gunshot wounds and he was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

This was the 18th homicide of the year in New Haven, according to the mayor's office.

“This loss of life is tragic,” New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker. “My heart goes out to the family and loved ones of the victim. Combating violence in our city and keeping the residents of New Haven safe continues to be my top priority.”
