Stanley Golf Course in New Britain will have its official season opening on Thursday, according to the Department of Parks and Recreation of New Britain.
Mayor Erin E. Stewart hit the first ball at 8:30 a.m., and Recreation Commission Chairman Patrick Dorsey hit the second. Following that, starting time procedure is first come, first served.
The Stanley Golf Course season opening includes giveaways by Golf Professional Kyle Hedstrom, according to Dorsey. There will also be free coffee and pastries, provided by Back Nine Tavern.
“We are very excited to be opening Stanley Golf Course for the 2017 season. We have many wonderful things happening at the Golf Course including our new restaurant the Back Nine Tavern owned by the Calvanese Family. The Calvanese’s bring a world of experience to us through their operation of the Aqua Turf Club and Farmington Club,” said Stewart. “They have already put a significant investment into the restaurant building through a newly designed and upgraded bar, renovated dining room, brick coal-fired oven, and will be soon breaking ground on a brand new outdoor dining area.”
Dorsey noted that golfers this year “are in for a real treat. The course itself is in great shape, our restaurant will be one of the nicest and professionally run in the state, and our nineteen bay covered, heated and lit driving range is seeing record numbers.”
After the official season opening, the course’s hours are 8 a.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday, Sunday and holidays.
