Suspect in UConn Student Murder Picked Up

A third suspect in the August 2008 murder of a UConn student was arrested Wednesday in Florida.

United States Marshals in Fort Myers arrested Nicholas Newton after a brief police chase.  Newton is wanted for murder and weapons charges in the murder of Vladimir Voinov, 21, in New Haven.

Marshals in Florida had been looking for Newton. They had been searching the Fort Myers area after police in Connecticut alerted them that Newton may have been staying with family there.

Akeem Gaye, 24, and Anthony Johnson, 19, already face murder charges in the case.

New Haven police say Voinov was gunned down in a Poplar Street apartment. Voinov was a UConn senior, and was active in the college's student government.

U.S. Marshals are labeling Voinov's murder as a drug-related homicide.
