A vigil was held in Naugatuck Sunday for an 11-year-old girl fighting for her life.
Teagan Hawkins of Cheshire fell ill suddenly and is currently being treated at Yale-New Haven Hospital, according to her family. The 6th grader is a competitive cheerleader, and on Sunday night members of her team, USA Wildcats, organized a vigil at the cheering gym in Naugatuck to offer support and prayers for Teagan and her family. About 100 people attended.
“Teagan has been in our gym since I think she was four-years-old and she’s just a great kid,” said USA Wildcats owner Cheryl Thomes. “She’s like magical and she like brightens the place up when she walks in.”
Teagan’s family says she loves competitive cheerleading, and her teammates say she is an inspiration.
“She was always there to brighten my day. Whenever I had a bad day or was feeling down, she was there to lift me up,” said Madison Boylan of Ansonia.
Many began posting on social media with the tag #PrayforTeagan in support of Teagan, spreading word of her struggle throughout the state.
“She would always say to like never give up and I think she will never give up either because she’s a strong fighter,” said Kaitlyn Fernandes of Wolcott.
Her family says they are hopeful she will make a full recovery and that they appreciate the prayers.
