‘We Don't Want to Hear About It'

The dismissal of New London football coach Jack Cochran will not be on the Board of Education's agenda Thursday night.

The New London Board of Education will not listen to public comment on Cochran's removal as the high school football coach.

The board is scheduled to hold it's regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday night.

The New London chapter of the Connecticut Education Association has filed a grievance against Superintendent Dr. Christopher Clouet over the coach's removal.

School board members could play a legal role in the coach's dismissal.  Therefore, it cannot hear public comment at its meeting, according to school board president Elaine Maynard-Adams.

Coach Cochran came under fire over what Dr. Clouet called a series of "questionable judgements."

Cochran works as a health teacher at the school, and served as baseball and football coach.  Cochran has claimed he resigned as baseball coach, to keep his post on the football field.  The superintendent has said there was no agreement between himself and Cochran to allow him to keep that post.

Cochran said he plans to apply for the football coach position when it is advertised, and expects to be with the team this fall.
