Travelers Championship Tees-Off in Cromwell

The Travelers Championship is underway!

The opening ceremony featured remarks from Gov. M. Jodi Rell, serving as Honorary Chairwoman.  And PGA tour professionals and amateurs will spend the day competing on the tournament course.

It was a busy day for the Travelers, as executives and pros rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange Monday morning.

This year, the Travelers Championship has announced a variety of new "fan enhancements" including a new Fan Zone on the course, a special Women's Day program on Thursday, and the Michelob ULTRA 19th Hole Concert Series, which will be held immediately following play on Friday and Saturday.

Though the forecast does not look so bright, organizers promise that if play is interrupted by the weather, tickets to that day's event will be honored.

All the proceeds go to local charities in Connecticut including The Hartford Jaycees and The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.

The Travelers Championship is the only PGA tour stop in the Northeast and is expected to feature some of the world's best golfers including Sergio Garcia, Vijay Singh, Anthony Kim and defending champion Stewart Cink.
