Flooding in Old Saybrook on October 13, 2011.

State Department of Transportation crews were working to clear away a beaver dam in Old Saybrook when water began rushing out of a blocked storm drain on Thursday.

Up to 4 feet of water flooded a neighborhood in the area of Old Boston Post Road. Officials said the water was flowing at the rate of 1,000 gallons per minute.

Crews were able to perform emergency damming and the flow was cut off relatively quickly.
