2 Caught on Stolen Dirt Bikes After Store Burglary: Plainfield Police

Plainfield police are expecting charges after catching two individuals operating stolen dirt bikes during an investigation into a burglary at a local business, police said.

Police responded to a business in town at 9 a.m. on Saturday to investigate reports that someone broke in overnight and stole two dirt bikes. Investigators collected evidence at the scene.

At about 2:24 p.m. on Saturday, Plainfield police received a noise complaint involving people racing on two dirt bikes on North and South Walnut Street. When police got there, they saw someone on the sidewalk talking to another person on a running dirt bike on North Walnut Street.

When the officer approached them, the dirt biker fled northbound onto trails that go by the river, police said. However, an officer detained the other person left standing on the sidewalk and conducted an interview. The person said both of them had been driving stolen dirt bikes and turned one of them over, police said.

Then, the second person returned on the other stolen dirt bike and gave it to the officers, police said.

The case remains under investigation "with future arrest expected," police said.

Officers ask anyone with information to call Plainfield Police Officer LaPorte at 860-564-0804 or to call the anonymous tip line at 860-564-7065.
