A 32-year-old Bridgeport man is accused of punching his mother’s auto mechanic after finding out just how much her repair job would cost, according to police.

Police said Deron Brooks started yelling at the auto mechanic Monday afternoon on the 1500 block of Stratford Avenue, saying he was upset about work that was done on both his car and his mother’s.

The mechanic told police he tried to walk away, but Brooks followed him and punched him in the face, authorities said.

Brooks’ mother was present for the incident and helped put police in touch with her son, who turned himself in at police headquarters.

Brooks is charged with third-degree assault and breach of peace. His bond was set at $5,000.
