A gas leak at 494 Naugatuck Ave. in Milford is under control.
Police said they received a 911 call about the leak at 11 a.m. after a Regional Water Authority work crew ruptured an unmarked 2-inch gas line that supplied the St. Ann's School building, police said.
Nearby buildings were evacuated and fire crews used gas meters to check the surrounding areas, but found no dangerous levels.
Southern Connecticut Gas Company crews arrived, stopped the flow of gas and are in the process repairing the damaged gas line.
Officials said the scene was under control at 12:27 p.m. and fire crews began to clear the scene.
