Hayes Wants to Be Executed: Report

The Hartford Courant is reporting that Steven Hayes, who is on death row for killing a Cheshire mother and her two daughters, wants to waive his appeals and be executed.

The Courant reports that Hayes sent a letter to the newspaper complaining of “cruel and unusual punishment,” inflicted on him by prison staff.

Jennifer Hawke Petit and her daughters Hayley, 17, and Michaela, 11, died at the hands of Hayes and Joshua Komisarjevsky during a brutal home invasion in 2007.

The information and images the jury saw during the trial were so graphic and disturbing that the jurors months after the trial said they still had nightmares, cried unexpectedly and constantly checked doors and windows.

The Courant spoke with the Public Defender’s Office, which did not offer comment on discussions with Hayes.
