Marie Colvin, a war reporter from Long Island who covered conflicts from Sri Lanka to the Middle East in her quest to bring stories about the world's most troubled places to light, was killed in a shelling attack in Syria.

The U.S. war correspondent killed on Wednesday morning is a graduate of Yale.

Marie Colvin is one of at least 13 people who were killed on Wednesday when shells stuck the house in which Colvin was working for the Sunday Times, a British newspaper, according to MSNBC and Reuters.

Colvin’s LinkedIn page states that she attended Yale and the university’s registrar’s office was able to confirm that a woman by the name of Marie Colvin graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in anthropology.
