Man Arrested After Accidental Shooting Injures 20-Year-Old in Mansfield

A man who drove a 20-year-old gunshot victim to the hospital after an accidental shooting in Mansfield is under arrest, state police said.

Stephen Ferriss, 21, is facing multiple charges including assault after state police responded to Windham Hospital at about 6:16 p.m. on Sunday to investigate a report of a patient brought in with a non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, according to state police.

Ferris told police he drove the victim, 20, to the hospital. State police determined in a preliminary investigation that a gun was fired accidentally in Mansfield and later found the weapon in the victim's home in the town.

The address where the incident occurred has not been released at this time.

State police major crime detectives from the eastern division are investigating the case.

Ferriss faces charges of second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, unlawful discharge of a firearm and interfering with an officer.

State police released him after he posted a $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Tuesday.
