Mountain Lion in East Haddam?

An animal control officer spotted an animal near Creek Row in East Haddam.

There is another report of a mountain lion in Connecticut.

An animal control officer said he spotted the animal near Creek Row in East Haddam, off Route 149 and found partial footprints.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is investigating a report of a sighting.

Should this cat prove to be a mountain lion, it would not be the first in the state.

A mountain lion or cougar, nicknamed the St. Croix Cougar, was spotted in the King Street area in Greenwich in June and died after being struck by a car on the Wilbur Cross Parkway in Milford in June.

Genetic tests showed it had traveled 1,800 miles, all the way from the Black Hills of South Dakota, which surprised officials. Until lab results tracked the cat’s origins, officials believed that the animal was raised in captivity and escaped or was let free.
