Police Arrest Convicted Felon Driving Car Suspected of Robbery Ties: Hartford PD

Hartford police arrested a 36-year-old convicted felon multiple weapons charges after they stopped him in a car he was driving that matched a description of a vehicle believed to be involved in street robberies in the capital city.

Kuwan Russ, 36, of Hartford, is facing multiple weapons charges and is accused of carrying a stolen gun.

Police received reports that an older, tan Lexus was involved in street robberies on July 25 and notified patrols with a description of the car and suspect.

Members of Hartford's shooting task force spotted a vehicle matching that description headed northbound on Wethersfield Avenue, so they stopped the car.

Police said they found a Glock model 26 9-millimeter pistol loaded with 9-millimeter rounds of ammunition on Russ. The gun was stolen in New York. Police also seized a portable red and blue police light, pepper spray, a flashlight, a 16-by-52 monocular, a dreadlock headpiece disguise, a winter hat, a black T-shirt and a black Champion jacket from his car.

Russ has criminal history of involvement in robbery and firearm incidents. Police took him into custody and charged him with having a pistol without a permit, criminal possession of a firearm, theft of a firearm, weapons in a motor vehicle and failure to properly display registration.
