Police ID 2nd Man Killed in Apparent Murder-Suicide in Waterbury

State police have identified the second man killed in an apparent murder-suicide involving an off-duty Waterbury police officer.

Police said they responded to a disturbance on Marion Avenue around 5 a.m. Wednesday and found two men dead who had been shot. Police identified one of the men involved as Hallock Yocher, 37, a 10-year veteran of the Waterbury Police Department on Wednesday. On Friday police identified the second man as James T. Stuart, 39, of Waterbury.

Stuart’s cause of death has been determined to be multiple gunshots and the manner of death ruled homicide, according to state police. Yocher’s cause of death was determined to be a single gunshot wound and the manner of death was ruled suicide, police said.

"This is an isolated incident. There is no threat to the public or the community," State Trooper Kelly Grant said during a news conference Wednesday. "The two deceased are acquainted. The extent of their relationship is under investigation."
