Police Investigating Death of Woman in New Haven

New Haven Police are investigating the discovery of a woman’s in the city’s Fair Haven neighborhood.

The body was discovered in the early afternoon Tuesday by a resident cleaning their driveway. According to that resident, the body was clothed and uncovered near the fence inside the yard of 180 Exchange Street.

State Police K9 dogs along with New Haven police detectives spent hours near the scene, but released little information about their investigation, only saying that the body belonged to a woman and was scheduled for an autopsy. As of Tuesday evening, no information about the woman’s age or possible identity or cause of death had been released.

Ed Rodriguez, the neighbor who says he discovered the body in his neighbor’s yard says he noticed it because he smelled a foul odor as he was cleaning his driveway.

“I smelled it again. That’s when I looked and I saw the body there,” he told NBC Connecticut.

Rodriguez and other residents on the street say they believe the body may have been dumped on Exchange street at some point in the late morning. Rodriguez says tenants who live in the street and exited their house earlier in the day did not report seeing or smelling anything out of the ordinary. “It was a shocking experience, seeing a body there, so close to the neighborhood,” he said.

New Haven Police have not said whether the body has undergone its autopsy or released any findings from the procedure.
