Police Release Dispatch Recordings from Oakdale Theater Shootings

Wallingford Police have released the dispatch recordings from the fatal shootings following a rap concert at the Oakdale Theater in late December.

Four people were shot that night at the Meek Mills concert. Two of the people shot were New Haven residents Travis Ward, 31, and Jaquan Graves, 20, who died later from their injuries. Two other men were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Almost four months later, Wallingford Police and Connecticut State Police are still trying to track down the gunman.

NBC Connecticut received the dispatch audio through a Freedom of Information Act request, but police withheld some of the dispatch communications about the victims and witnesses to not compromise their investigation.

“Any idea where the shooters are?” dispatch said at 11:26 p.m. in one of the recordings.

“There’s traffic all over the place,” an officer replies. “Negative,” another officer said.

As police arrived at the Oakdale Theater, many of the Meek Mill concertgoers were leaving the venue.

“How many more units could you use up there?” dispatch asked around 11:31 p.m.

“As many as you can get,” an officer responded. “There are cars everywhere, people everywhere and we don’t even know how many victims we got.”

At 11:12 p.m., police were notified about one gunshot victim.

“Go to the front entrance by the box office,” dispatch said. “There was an altercation in the parking lot, one of the individuals fired a gun, shot somebody in the leg.”

About ten minutes later, one of the responding officers repots hearing more gunfire.

“Multiple shots fired, multiple shots fired, and I can hear them, I’ll head back over there,” he said.

It wasn’t until 11:31 p.m. that officers notified dispatch that the scene was secure to send in ambulances to treat the shooting victims.

“Yes, have them come in the south side lot, all the victims appear to be here for now that we know,” an officer said in one of the recordings.

Dispatch called in officers from North Haven Police, Cheshire Police and State Police to help gather information from the many cars leaving the Oakdale on Cook Hill Road and Route 15.

“We do not have a suspect’s car at this point,” an officer radioed in at 11:39 p.m.

Since the shootings, Lt. Cheryl Bradley said Wallingford Police detectives have tried gathering witness statements from as many concertgoers as possible. Bradley said this remains an open investigation into the double-murder and anyone with information to help investigators is urged to contact Wallingford Police.
