One Taken to Hospital After Crash on Route 30 in Vernon

One person was taken to the hospital after a crash on Route 30 in Vernon, according to Vernon police.

Police said that three vehicles were involved in a crash near the Vernon Center Middle School. One person was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening.

Initial investigation shows that one vehicle crossed the center line, side-swiped one vehicle, then kept driving in the opposite lane and side-swiped a second car.

Police said that it appears that the driver of one vehicle may have been impaired, but that is under investigation. None of the drivers have been identified.

“Just prior to the accident our dispatch center received several 911 calls reporting erratic operation. It’s believed to be the operator of one of the vehicles that was involved in the collision," said Lt. William Meier of the Vernon Police Department.

That stretch of Route 30 is generally busy, but because students are off for spring break there was less traffic than usual, police said.

The road was closed for about an hour and a half but has since reopened.
