1st American Man Wins Boston Marathon Since '83

Meb Keflezighi won the elite men's field at Monday's Boston Marathon, becoming the first American to do so since 1983, New England Cable News reported. Defending champion Rita Jeptoo of Kenya finished first in the women's elite field, setting a course record of 2:18:57. Boston kicked off its marathon with the second-largest field in the race's history, one year after twin bombs at the finish line killed three people and wounded 264. Over 3,500 cops were overseeing the route of the race and authorities were watching the finish-line crowd from more than 50 “observation points," NBC News reported.
