Child, 4, Dies After Being Left in Hot Car

The child was taken to hospital but pronounced dead on arrival

Authorities in central Pennsylvania say a 4-year-old child died after being left in a car for several hours in downtown Williamsport.

Police dispatched to the scene at about 3:30 p.m. Friday reported that upon the arrival of emergency personnel, the child was removed and first aid was administered.

The child, whose identity and gender weren't released, was rushed to Williamsport Regional Medical Center but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The National Weather Service said a high of 97 degrees was recorded in the city just after 4 p.m. Friday. The weather service forecasts that almost all of the Lower 48 states could hit a high of 95 degrees on Monday.

Lycoming County authorities said an autopsy was scheduled at Lehigh Valley Medical Center in Allentown.
