Kevin Costner Takes Role in Tarantino's “Django Unchained”

It's been a long time since Kevin Costner has starred in a film that was a major hit commercially or critically, and now suddenly the guy's got roles in two of 2012 biggest films.

Cosnter, who was recently cast as Jonathan Kent in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot, "Man of Steel," has now joined the cast of Quentin Tarantino's "slave revenge saga," "Django Unchained," reported Deadline.

"Django" will star Jamie Foxx as a former slave trained to be a bounty hunter by Christoph Waltz, who then uses his new-found skills to go after Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), the man who still "owns" his wife Broomhilda. Costner will play Ace Woody, the sadistic monster who "trains" Candie's male slaves for "Mandingo"-style fights for the amusement of white bar patrons. Charming.

We have to admit we enjoyed Costner's turn as a washed up drunk of a ballplayer in "The Upside of Anger," and he was one of the few bright spots the mostly wretched "Company Men," so the guy clearly has something left in the tank. Let's hope Snyder and QT can tap into it.
