Take Mom Out For Her Special Day

That construction paper card you used to make for Mom just isn’t going to cut it this year.  It’s time to consider an extra special gift for Mother’s Day.  Ask mothers, and nine out of every ten will tell you it is not about how much you spend.  What really matters is the thought put into the gift.  (At least that's what they *say*.)

Start the day off on a nice note by filling up your tummy at a delicious brunch!
How about trying Lena’s Café and Confections in New Haven?  All the food there is made-to-order and the chef there promises that no one leaves there hungry. If you live in the Manchester area try The Adams Mill. You and mom can enjoy eggs Benedict or an omlet with meat carved off the bone right before your eyes.
Other ideas include taking mom to the Glastonbury Coffee Shop, legendary O’Rourke’s Diner in Middletown or the new Cocoa in West Hartford Center.  These spots are sure to have a little bit of everything so you can’t go wrong!
Considering everyone and their mother will be out, reservations are required for most places and some hotspots are close to being booked. So get to it and call ahead!
After eating eggs and french toast until your hearts content, how about walking off the calories?
You were probably a little monkey growing up, so why not take mom to the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport to see some other climbers.  From 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., moms get in free when accompanied by a paying guest.  More than 300 animals are housed there and you can stay as long as you want!
And since you've probably taken mom for a ride once before, consider the Mother’s Day Express.
On Saturday only, you can ride the Naugatuck Railroad and see what the beautiful Litchfield Hills have to offer. Travel on board their vintage 1920’s coaches and view the signs of springtime in the Naugatuck River Valley.
The scenic 20-mile round trip ride is a little over an hour. All trains depart from Thomaston Station on East Main Street. One Mom rides free per family with chid 3-12 years old.  Train departure times at 12pm and 2pm. It’s one day only.

No matter how you spend your Mother's Day, we hope you enjoy it!
