A Groton neighborhood was evacuated Wednesday night after a man barricaded himself inside a home on Poquonnock Road.
Just before 9 p.m. Wednesday, police tried to serve a search and seizure warrant and the man in the home locked himself inside, police said. Soon after, police heard a gunshot.
State police, as well as officers from nearby Ledyard, were called in to help.
When police finally got inside the home around midnight, the man was dead, police said.
The man was the only person inside the home at the time of the shooting, investigators said. What police were looking for is not known.
