A UConn basketball player has been arrested on drug charges.
Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, a 21-year-old sophomore forward of the team, was arrested on Thursday evening.
Coombs-McDaniel, of Dorchester, Massachusetts and two other Boston men were found with 5.6 grams of marijuana, a marijuana grinder and a package of cigars used to smoke marijuana, UConn police told, the Mansfield-Storrs Patch reports.
Coombs-McDaniel played in all 41 games of the Huskies championship-winning basketball season and started in two games, according to the roster. He hit his game high 25 points this season against Providence College and scored 9 points in the Maui Invitational Championship win over Kentucky.
The UConn Athletics Department said it is aware of the arrest, but has no further comment.
NBC Connecticut has left a message with UConn police but they did not immediately respond.
Coombs-McDaniel is due in court on May 5.
