What You're Doing This Weekend – Jan. 30 – Feb. 2

If you're like me and still can't feel your fingers after digging out your car, you might need a warm drink this weekend to defrost. We've got you covered.

The Gems

An Evening of Comedy: Two national comedians are back together for a night of comedy. Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood of the Emmy-nominated Whose Line Is It Anyway? will bring their lightning fast wit and improv to the Jorgensen Center at UConn.  The shows are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.

6 Oscars, 1 Night: Twice the drama and twice the thrill! Part I and Part II of the classic Godfather will be playing for the first and only time back-to-back this Sunday at the Cinestudio in Hartford. The cast includes Marlon Brando as Don Corleone, Al Pacino, John Cazale and James Caan. Show times are 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The Family Activities

The Science Genie: Lights, lasers and a high-powered musical finale will electrify The Children's Museum in West Hartford this Saturday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Bring the whole family down to watch enlightening experiments with invisible ultraviolet light and bending laser beams.

Food Show: On Saturday, head over to the Connecticut Culinary Institute in Hartford for the Tri-county Food Show. Local 4-H members will present food items they've created and talk all about what they learned in the process. Sounds educational and tasty to us.

Sleeping Beauty: Just in time for Valentine's Day, it's a story of true love.  And you'll be pleasantly surprised when you see what a great job the cast has done.  It's being put on by the Newington Children's Theater Company this weekend and touring Connecticut through April.  They'll bring pageantry, romance, swordplay, and magic.  Tickets are just $10 for adults and $8 for children, students, and seniors.  They're almost sold out - so make sure you call before you go!

15 Dogs vs. 1 Man: Treats aren’t for the dogs. The Ridgefield Playhouse has a treat for the whole family! Johnny Peers and The Muttville Comix are back to Ridgefield to perform to sold out crowds this Saturday. From jumping rope, to climbing ladders to knocking Johnny down, these 15 rescued dogs can do it all. Show starts at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $15.

Wild Nights

Friday Night Fervor: It may be cold outside, but The Warehouse is heating things up this Friday night in Hartford with music from Closed Till Dark. With jazz, soul, R&B, funk and hip hop, Closed Till Dark will be sure to keep your head bobbin’ and your body movin’.

Wolfs vs. Tigers: Keep your jackets on and step into the world of ice hockey as the Hartford Wolfpack and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers go head-to-head this Friday night from 7-9:30 p.m. Tickets are between $10 and $27. Just as much entertainment as a boxing match but half the price!
