Back to Wintry Reality

That brief, Spring-like break will bring about some of the coldest temps of the season.

As the huge snow piles shrank this weekend with the mild temps and rain... Mother Nature prepared for her next blast of winter weather.

Sunday's high temperature at Bradley Airport was 49 degrees, while the average for this time of year is 36.  Other parts of the state topped out in the middle and even upper-50s.

We'll call Monday our "transition" day.  That huge storm that brought several days of blizzard conditions to the Midwest and Upper Plains has weakened and a piece of that energy is going to come across the northeast today.  It brings us some snow and rain showers.  While it will be mild enough for just wet pavement this afternoon, there could be a coating or up to an inch in the hill towns.  The concern will be for dropping temperatures toward the evening commute.  Slick spots may once again develop.

Overnight is when the real arctic air arrives. We could see some snow squalls or a quick burst of snow late as the front passes.  Then expect wind ...and cold!

Temperatures on Tuesday will struggle out of the teens to around 20.  Combine those temperatures with wind that will gust over 30 mph, that means wind chills will be below zero at times.

If that's not wintry enough for you, Connecticut's Weather Center will be watching for the potential for a coastal storm in the timeframe of New Year's Eve night and New Year's Day.  The exact timing, track and strength of the storm are details we'll be following as new information comes in.

Stay tuned, and check out the Weather section for more details.
