Activists Set to Protest Accused Dog Killer

Police Branford Man Strangled Misbehaving Pet

Animal rights activists are planning to rally outside the court hearing of a Connecticut man charged with choking his dog to death.

Alex Wullaert, 22, of Branford is scheduled to appear for a second time in New Haven Superior Court on Tuesday on animal cruelty and littering charges.

Wullaert was arrested in May after a microchip found inside the dog's discarded body in January identified him as the owner.

Authorities said Wullaert confessed to strangling the pit bull-boxer mix, named Desmond, at his home after it urinated on his leg and bit him.

Wullaert said in court papers that he put flowers on the lake where he tossed the dog's body.

Activists set up a Facebook page "Justice for Desmond" to help organize their protest
