Bank Robbery, Bank Crash Unrelated: Cops

Police responded to two neighboring banks in North Haven Wednesday

North Haven police are investigating a bank robbery and a crash into a nearby bank on Washington Avenue.

The robbery happened at the TD Bank branch at 80 Washington Avenue around 2 p.m., according to police. At about the same time, a car crashed into the First Niagara Bank at 110 Washington Avenue. The incidents appear to be unrelated, police said.

A First Niagara employee was sitting at his desk near where the car broke through the front window.  The desk shielded the employee from the car, according to the building's owner.  No one was injured.

At the TD Bank, police said a man walked into the bank and handed the teller a note demanding money.  The man claimed to have a weapon, police said.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call Det. Matt Falcon at 203-239-5321, ext. 245.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
