Branford Woman's Insurance Bonus Check Offer Stalls

When one Branford woman leased a new car, she switched insurance companies to save some money. She turned to NBC Connecticut Responds when months passed and she still didn’t see her check.

When Debbie Caruso leased her new Jeep Cherokee last October, she was looking forward to taking it on the road.

“My insurance agent sent me an email that Allstate was offering a cash back bonus buy. I just had to fill out the application and send it to their email,” said Caruso.

Caruso said she filled out the form and an Allstate representative told her through email that she was eligible for the $500 cash back program because of the make and model of the car she purchased.

The agent told Caruso she would receive a response in eight to 10 weeks.

Caruso said she did not hear back during that timeframe, and followed up with the representative, who confirmed Caruso’s application had been accepted. The rep said it would take about 12 weeks for Allstate to send her the tracking number, and then the $500 check.

“They even said on the application that they had verified with the dealership that I did in fact actually made the purchase,” Caruso said.

She figured that was the reason for the delay. But 16 weeks later, Caruso said the check still hadn’t arrived in the mail.

“I thought maybe it was just an offer that, they were just kind of stringing me along, honestly, that they were thinking I would forget about it,” she said.

Frustrated, Caruso reached out to NBC Connecticut Responds and our team contacted Allstate Insurance.

A week later, Caruso said she got an email from Allstate letting her know the check had been processed and was on the way.

“Oh, I was so excited, because without you I wouldn’t have gotten it,” added Caruso.

The Chief Operating Officer with Allstate’s Bonus Drive program, Jay Pepper, told NBC Connecticut in an email:

“There was a delay, but we would rectify the situation. These are legitimate offers paid for by participating auto manufacturers and supported through business partners such as Allstate. We don’t like to have anyone unhappy with a check they receive for simply completing an on line application. To date over 20,000 checks have been issued to BonusDrive customers and it’s money they can’t get anywhere else.”
