Bristol Landmark Closing For Good

Nearly a century of tradition is coming to an end in Bristol.  Tinty's Furniture is closing its doors for good.

The store has been operating at the same Memorial Boulevard location for the past 91 years, but many had expected the closure after long-time owner Donald Tinty died in July, according to the Bristol Press.

The city is trying to look for a bright spot in the announcement that an establishment with decades of history in Bristol would be no more.

“The big thing is the opportunity for reuse of the site,” Bristol's economic development director Jonathan Rosenthal, told the paper.  “They saddle both streets from Riverside Avenue to the Boulevard.”

"I'm sad to see them go," Bristol Mayor Art Ward, told the Press.  “They’ve been very supportive of the community.”

He says the Route 72 expansion project could help spur development at the site where Tinty's has stood for so long.
