A man police say kidnapped and threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend and two children New Year's Day turned himself in Friday night, said Hartford Police..

Vinroy Hines, 30, faces charges including kidnapping, reckless endangerment, criminal attempt to commit murder, risk of injury to a minor, assault and violating an order of protection.   He turned himself in at around 7:45pm Friday, according to Hartford Police.

His children were found safe early Friday morning.

Here's what police say happened:  Hines met the mother of his children, along with their 4-month-old baby girl and 20-month-old baby boy for lunch in Hartford Thursday.  Hines and the woman apparently got into a fight on Albany Avenue.  That's when police say he forced the mom and the children into his car, threatened to kill them all and then himself.  He was headed toward Bridgeport, according to police, when the mom managed to jump out on the highway, leaving the two babies behind.

The car was found overnight in Bridgeport and it was believed that he was headed toward the Bridgeport train station.  With the assistance of State Police, local departments searched several Bridgeport locations without luck.

Bond was set for Hines at $2 million Friday night.
