Chris Murphy Receives Boost from National Democrat Group

A national democratic group has contributed over $300,000 to Murphy's campaign.

U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy is receiving a boost from a national Democratic group in his campaign for the U.S. Senate.

A party official said the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is contributing $320,000 for television advertisements beginning on Wednesday.

The official wasn't authorized to publicly discuss the matter and spoke Tuesday on the condition of anonymity.

Murphy represents Connecticut's 5th Congressional District and he is going up against Republican Linda McMahon, a former wrestling executive who has tapped her personal fortune as she runs an aggressive campaign against Murphy.

McMahon spent $50 million of her own money on a failed Senate run in 2010, and she has lent or contributed to her 2012 campaign nearly $16 million.

The investment from the DSCC comes as polls indicate a tight race in the Democratic-leaning state
